Add Deputy to Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI, VS Code, OpenCode, Claude Desktop or any other MCP client.
Deputy is a stdio MCP server, deputy-mcp, that your client runs with npx -y deputy-mcp. Add it once; your client starts it whenever it starts. It needs Node.js 20 or later, and the extension with your Pro key.
$claude mcp add deputy -- npx -y deputy-mcpClaude Code
claude mcp add deputy -- npx -y deputy-mcpCodex
codex mcp add deputy -- npx -y deputy-mcpGitHub Copilot CLI
copilot mcp add deputy -- npx -y deputy-mcpCursor
In ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json for one project:
{
"mcpServers": {
"deputy": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "deputy-mcp"]
}
}
}Gemini CLI
In ~/.gemini/settings.json, the same mcpServers shape:
{
"mcpServers": {
"deputy": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "deputy-mcp"]
}
}
}VS Code
In .vscode/mcp.json:
{

"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "deputy-mcp"]
}
}

In opencode.json:
{
"mcp": {
"deputy": {
"type": "local",
"command": ["npx", "-y", "deputy-mcp"]
}
}
}Claude Desktop
Open Settings > Developer > Edit Config, which opens claude_desktop_config.json, and add the mcpServers shape:
{
"mcpServers": {
"deputy": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "deputy-mcp"]
}
}
}Then quit Claude Desktop fully and open it again.
Any other client
Add a stdio MCP server that runs:
npx -y deputy-mcpSeveral clients at once
You can add Deputy to as many clients as you like and run them together. Each starts its own deputy-mcp; the first one owns the connection to the extension on 127.0.0.1:7331, and the rest share it. See One browser, many agents.
Clients configured with a URL
While deputy-mcp runs, it also answers MCP over Streamable HTTP at http://127.0.0.1:7331/mcp, on this computer only. That address only answers while some client's deputy-mcp is running, so set up the stdio server above wherever your client supports it.
Check it
Ask your agent to open a page. Its first call is usually browser_navigate, and the answer lists the page's forms as typed tools. If it says Deputy can't reach the browser, see Troubleshooting.
