Settings and environment

Everything on Deputy's setup page, Chrome's User Scripts switch, and the environment variables deputy-mcp reads.

The setup page

It opens when the extension installs. To open it again, right-click the Deputy icon in the toolbar and choose Options, or click the icon and then Setup & Pro.

Deputy Pro

SettingDoes
License keyYour Deputy Pro key, dpro_…, shown after checkout. The extension from the Chrome Web Store needs it for everything. Click Save after pasting it
Allow Deputy Pro to send a screenshot of a tab to Deputy's server when my agent asks it to look at the pageOff by default. browser_look needs it; Pro features that need no screenshot work without it

The key and the switch are stored in the extension only, on this computer.

What your agent may do

Reading pages, filling forms, clicking and opening pages are always on. You can switch off the rest. A change applies at once: the extension refuses the operation, which no agent can route around, and your agent stops seeing the tools.

SwitchTools it covers
See pages as imagesbrowser_screenshot, browser_look
Read console messages and network requestsbrowser_console, browser_network
Upload files from this computer to a pagebrowser_upload
Read files that pages downloadbrowser_downloads

If your agent uses a switched-off tool anyway, it's told you turned it off and to carry on without it, or ask you.

Allow User Scripts

browser_eval runs your agent's own JavaScript through Chrome's User Scripts API, the one path Chrome allows extensions for that. It's governed by Chrome's switch, not Deputy's: open chrome://extensions (edge://extensions in Edge), click Details on Deputy, and turn on Allow User Scripts. It's off unless you turn it on.

Environment

deputy-mcp reads these from the environment your MCP client starts it in. All are optional.

VariableDoes
OPENROUTER_API_KEYYour own OpenRouter key. When it's set, browser_ask and delegate_goal use it, under your own OpenRouter account, instead of Pro's hosted planner. browser_look still uses Pro
OPENROUTER_MODELThe model your key uses. Default qwen/qwen3.7-flash
DEPUTY_PORTThe port deputy-mcp listens on, 7331 by default. The extension connects on 7331, so the store extension won't reach deputy-mcp on any other port

With OPENROUTER_API_KEY set, page text and your agent's questions go from your computer to OpenRouter directly, not through Deputy. See Privacy.

The local address

deputy-mcp listens on 127.0.0.1:7331 only:

PathFor
/extThe extension's connection
/peerOther deputy-mcp processes on this computer (One browser, many agents)
/mcpMCP over Streamable HTTP, for clients configured with a URL
/healthA JSON status: extension connected, peers, tabs, tools
